The Book of Bonding

It was a warm morning in September, an the sun was shining in the clear, blue sky. In a classroom full of six-year-old girls, there were two little friends named Emma and Olivia. They sat next to each other, and they shared a love for books and stories. One day, as they were waiting for their teacher to come back from the bathroom, Emma pulled out a book from her backpack and showed it to Olivia.

“Look, Olivia! This is my favorite book,” Emma said as she held up a colorful and beautifully illustrated book titled “Why a Daughter Needs a Mom” by authors Gregory E. Lang and Susanna Leonard Hill. “My mom and I read it every night before bed, and it’s so lovely.”

Olivia looked at the cover with curiosity. She had never seen the book before, and she was interested in knowing more. “What’s it about, Emma?” Olivia asked, eager to learn more about this book that seemed to mean so much to her friend.

“Well,” Emma started, “It’s about how special the bond between a mother and daughter is. The book talks about all the different ways that a mom takes care of her daughter, and how much love and support she gives. It’s so sweet.”

Olivia listened intently, nodding her head as Emma spoke. “That sounds really nice,” she said. “Can you read it to me?”

“Sure!” Emma said, excited to share her favorite book with her friend. She began reading aloud, and Olivia was immediately drawn into the story. The rhymes were heartwarming, and the illustrations were charming and captivating.

As they read, Emma became more animated, pointing out her favorite parts and telling Olivia stories about her and her mom. Olivia listened intently, smiling and nodding along. She could see how much the book meant to her friend, and she was happy to share in her joy.

“I wish my mom and I had a book like this,” Olivia said wistfully as Emma finished reading the last page.
“You can borrow mine!” Emma offered eagerly. “My mom says that sharing is caring, and I’d love for you to read it with your mom too.”

Olivia smiled gratefully, and the two friends spent the rest of the day talking about the book and imagining all the adventures they could have with their moms.

Days passed, and Emma and Olivia continued to talk about the book. Emma would excitedly tell Olivia about the new stories and lessons she learned, and Olivia would listen, happy to hear about her friend’s adventures. However, Olivia began to notice that Emma’s stories were becoming more elaborate and fantastical, and she wondered if they were true.

One day, as they were walking home from school, Olivia asked Emma about one of her stories. “Emma, did you really go on a hot air balloon ride with your mom like you said in the book?”

Emma hesitated, her smile fading a bit. “No, not exactly,” she admitted. “I wish we did, but we can’t afford it.”

Olivia looked at her friend sympathetically. “It’s okay, Emma. I don’t think you need to make up stories to make the book more special. It’s already wonderful on its own.”
Emma looked down, feeling ashamed. She knew that Olivia was right, but she couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Olivia. I just wanted to make it seem like my mom and I had the best relationship ever, like in the book.”

Olivia put a hand on Emma’s shoulder. “You don’t have to pretend to have a perfect relationship with your mom. The book is just one way of showing how much a mother loves her daughter. It’s not the only way.”
Emma looked up at Olivia, grateful for her friend’s understanding. “You’re right,
